Celebrate the Day of the Olive!
Coming up this month we have the Day of the Olive on 4th October 2009. As you probably already know olive trees grow in abundance in Cyprus and we produce olive oil and delicious traditional olive pies using our locally grown produce. Oleastro is an award winning organic olive oil producer with a beautiful olive theme park situated in the picturesque village of Anogyra near Limassol. Oleastro has won awards not only for the quality of the oil but also for their environmental initiatives. Oleastro provides a unique venue which we can use for teambuilding events such cooking demonstrations or dinner functions with music and dancing with a traditional and local feel. For any future functions to Cyprus, Premier can organize various innovative and interesting events at this venue related to the subject of olive based on specific requirements and according to the group profile.

Cyprus Handicraft: Lefkara Lace
Lefkara, is renowned the world over for its delicate lacemaking tradition, which was first inspired by the Venetians. Lefkara is a picturesque little village named due to the light colour of the mountains ‘lefka ori’ meaning white mountains as they are made of white limestone. The village has beautiful stone traditional houses and narrow winding cobbled streets. Leonardo da Vinci is even said to have come to Cyprus to buy Lefkara lace for the main altar of the Milan Cathedral. Lefkara lacemaking involves very intricate needlework with very fine lace and traditionally uses distinctive white, brown and beige threads. Lefkara lace is traditionally embroidered on pure linen and nowadays it is done using natural colour linen with white or light brown thread. A piece of Lefkara lace also looks the same on both sides, which is another differentiating factor aside from its unique craftsmanship and designs.

Lefkara has recently come under the spotlight as Lefkara Lace has been nominated by UNESCO as an element of Intangible Heritage of Cyprus, an achievement this small village is incredibly proud of.

Taste of the Cyprus Wine Routes
It is a little known fact about our island, but Cyprus is one of the oldest wine making countries in the world and as such has a rich wine heritage to offer. With our long summer and strong sun, the good quality of grapes that results has defined the character of our wines. There are beautiful picturesque mountain villages tucked away which have extensive vineyards with indigenous grape varieties which make for beautiful white and red wines. We also have wine routes along the stunning Akamas coastline, and trips to take you through charming little villages such as Pano and Kato Arodes, where you will be invited to sample the delicious locally produced wines. Some of our most popular wines such as Maratheftiko and white wines made with Xynisteri grape variety can be sampled on the Akamas Wine Route or on the Pistilia wine route.

For anyone with an interest in Cyprus wine, its heritage and traditional wine making methods, a sample of our island’s wine routes can make a wonderful group activity, teambuilding event or simply an authentic individual cultural trip. Contact us for a customized proposal to include discovery of our unique winemaking heritage.
